Treating Conditions

Don't ignore the signals your body is sending you, diagnosing discomfort early can eliviate longer term problems. If you are experiencing pain, please get in touch to discuss your situation.

Back, Neck & Hip Pain.

Back and neck pain refers to pain anywhere along the length of your spine, it can be central to the spine, or more one sided or further away from the spine.  The pain can be classed as mild, dull ache to raging throbbing debilitating pain that worsens on movement.

There are many causes of back pain, most often it is due to a soft tissue injury of the muscles and ligaments, or that the discs and joints have challenged and are compressed or twisted.

Headaches, Facial Pain, Sinus pain & Jaw Pain.

There can be many causes of headaches, with tension or ‘cervico-genic’ headaches being the more common and is often as result of a problem in the neck.

Postural changes, i.e. working in the same position for a long time at a desk, and wear and tear within the neck joints can cause people to suffer with frequent headaches.

Facial pain and Jaw (TMJ – temporal mandibular joint) pain can be experienced around the face as well as headaches and neck pain and can be as the result of trauma, sustained stress, clenching teeth.

Sinus pain, sinusitis can be an extremely painful condition.  The membranes that line the sinuses become inflamed and natural mucus is unable to drain.   This results in feeling stuffed up, pain over the face, eyes, and into the teeth.  At times the mucous can become infected.

Shoulder Treatment

Shoulder Pain, Frozen Shoulder & Rotator Cuff Injuries.

Injury to the shoulder joint, the shoulder ligaments or muscles can be extremely painful and can even result in loss of movement within the joint which can affect you being able to use the arm; at times you may struggle to brush your hair!

Hands

Elbow, Wrist & Hand Problems.

Tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, RSI (repetitive strain injuries), carpal tunnel syndrome, these are just a few of the many conditions that can cause pain, discomfort and even loss of use of the arm or hand.  Muscles and ligaments in the arm can be strained and pulled just like the muscles in the back.

Physiotherapy

Sciatica

Sciatica refers to pain that travels along the sciatic nerve.

The sciatic nerve is the largest nerve, originating in the lower back and travels down the back of the leg to the heel of the foot.  Sciatica is when the nerve roots become pinched  which affects the nerve impulses and cause pain, pins and needles, numbness or weakness.

Knees, Ankles & Feet.

Policeman’s Heel, Plantar fasciitis, Osgood Schlatters Disease, Trochanteric Bursitis, Bakers Cyst – these are a few of the conditions that can occur in the lower limb that cause pain and can affect a person’s mobility.  Pain can also be as a result of a pulled thigh (Quad) muscle.

Neck and Shoulder Massage

Whiplash.

Whiplash is a term that describes a neck injury caused by sudden movement of head, and most commonly associated with road traffic accidents. A whiplash type injury can cause neck pain and stiffness, inability to turn head and headaches. Whiplash type injuries can also be as a result of a fall or slip, sudden blow to the head and a sporting injury.

Aches, Joint Pains & Arthritic Pain.

Arthritis or aches and pain can also be referred to as “wear and tear” with symptoms of pain, loss of mobility, stiffness and swelling.  The pain is caused by inflammation within the joint as the protective bone cartilage becomes worn which makes the bones rub together.  The muscles around the joint may then tighten which will affect how you use the joint.

Osteopathy will not treat the arthritis directly, however, osteopathic treatment can be effective in relieving the symptoms of arthritis.

Sports Injuries.

Sports injuries do not just affect the elite athlete.  Injuries can happen to anyone that participates in a sporting activity, regardless of the level of fitness.  Usually the injuries are pulled/strained muscles, sprains from awkward movements, e.g. twisting ankle or over-use injuries. Typically we treat injuries sustained playing sports which include…

  • Football

  • Golf

  • Rugby

  • Cricket

  • Running

  • Athletics, track and field

  • Swimming

  • Tennis / raquet sports

  • Basketball/Netball

  • Cycling

  • Hockey

Baby Sleeping

Babies & Children

Treatment of babies and young children involves a range of techniques, including stretching, massage and cranial.  Cranial techniques are safe, gentle and non-manipulative and can help release and balance areas of physical tension and compression.

Pregnancy

Pregnancy & Post Natal Women

As your baby bump gets bigger, the body centre of gravity will move which brings about other structural changes to the body.  With pregnancy comes the increase in the production of the hormone relaxin to allow for increased blood flow and relax the ligaments in the pelvic region.   The physical exertion of birth on the body and the immediate change to the centre of gravity can put a lot of strain on the body.  Osteopathy can help reduce the strains and restore the sense of alignment and well being.

I have been to see Sue many times over the past few years for lots of different issues. Sue is friendly, professional and most importantly she is brilliant at her job. What I love about Sue is that she explains exactly what the problem is and what she is doing to help fix it. I have recommended Sue to many friends and family and will continue to do so.

Becca Macauley

The first professional I've seen in 12 years of back pain to not make me feel like this is all my fault! Her treatments and exercise plans are very effective, and her support with regard to pursuing NHS help is invaluable. Highly recommended.

Melissa Blakeley

I’ve been going to Sue for years, she always helps when I pick up any running injuries. She makes me feel very comfortable in my appointments and clearly explains the injury and treatment plan. Sue is an excellent Osteopath and I would highly recommend.
